Title: Tonight – a book of God’s bedtime promises

By: Emily Assell and Lauren Copple

RRP: £6.99 but £5.94 here

Published by: Hodder Faith Young Explorers

Available from: The Book Depository Blackwells and a host of other places

Best bit: a simple way to read God’s promises over your child at bedtime

Worst bit: I might have chosen pictures of children instead of animals, as although the pictures are lovely, they don’t always depict the promises as well as human pictures might have been able to

More thoughts:

This lovely board book is perfect for reading to children at bedtime.

It’s set up for babies and toddlers, but the words are good for any age, even adults, as you can see from the really short letter from the author on the inside cover, which says:

“Words are powerful.

Our God is the God who does not slumber or sleep (Psalm 121:4), and his love is the antidote to fear (1 John 4:18). He desires that our sleep be fruitful and productive – bringing rest, not worry, and equipping his children with blessings for each new day.

Speak out loud the Word of God over your children, and together find peace, comfort, strength and peace.”

Isn’t that just beautiful?

Each page has a picture, a sentence and a short Bible verse. I would probably just read the sentence, as it is written to be read aloud. The verses are a helpful reminder of where in the Bible the thought in the sentence comes from. Each has obviously been carefully selected, finishing with one of my favourites:

“And tomorrow when you wake up, [God] will still be with you.”, which comes from Psalm 139:18

Any child growing up being read these promises each night, will be blessed indeed!

And anyone looking for a baptism / christening / new baby present couldn’t go far wrong with this lovely book.
