Have fun with some pumpkins in October by celebrating the light of Jesus. Instead of carving scary faces, create a positive image such as a cross or the letters of the word ‘Jesus’. (I’ve tried to do an angel but haven’t managed so if you do, please send me a photo!)
Look up some Bible verses about light such as the ones below. Chat about what they might have meant to the people who first heard the words and what it might mean for you today.
Jesus told us that God is light and doesn’t have any darkness in him. Now we are telling you. If we say that we share in life with God and keep on living in the dark, we are lying and are not living by the truth. But if we live in the light, as God does, we share in life with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus washes all our sins away.
1 John 1:5-7 (CEV)
Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This time he said, “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won’t be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life.”
John 8:12 (CEV)
Those who walked in the dark have seen a bright light.
And it shines upon everyone who lives in the land of darkest shadows.
Isaiah 9:2 (CEV) (This verse is also a song called ‘Shining’, available as a download for 79p from SU)
