Edible eyes are such fun! Using thick icing (icing sugar and a touch of water) as ‘glue’ to stick them onto bread sticks and Voila! You have bread stick puppets to tell your story with. And a snack for afterwards. It’s kind of VeggieTales with bread.
We made them with broken breadsticks so some were small and some tall, making them perfect for a retelling of David and Goliath, which just happens to be a story my daughter has just got into.
With older children, use the ‘glue’ to add other features, and let them do the making. You’ll need to leave your puppets for a while to set, so maybe make the characters one session then use them the next. Or make them in advance and let them just enjoy the story and snack.
