All about Shabbat family service sheet
A short service sheet for families to have their own Shabbat meal together. It includes prayers with candles, water, bread and wine, and a special blessing for the women and children using Proverbs 31 and Psalm 127.
Feel free to use and adapt so that it works for your family. You might like to just use the first part, or the last. We always give out large chunks of bread which work as a sort of starter as we continue with the blessings. This way no one gets too hungry.
All you need to complete this service is:
- two candles and a way to light them
- a bowl of water and a towel to dry your hands
- two loaves or slices of bread
- some red wine and/or juice
- a meal to share together!
It is available as a pdf for you to to print in colour on two double-sided A4 sheets. Your pdf will be available after the checkout.

I’ve just bought the pdf. Impressed at the layout, it looks inviting and attractive. And I like the way you have made the principles explicit, that’s what I wasn’t very good at with our Passover meal yesterday – so then the older children are thinking what exactly are we doing this for? That’s amazing you have built this into your family life from early days. I’m glad I have lots of children that I can have another go at things!! 😂

We have used this sheet fairly regularly for two or three years now. We have grown to add some bits to suit our particular family, and we tend to take it in turns to lead the different sections. This sheet has really enabled us to bring some meaning and shape to family meals. It’s simple enough to be accessible for kids, but not simplistic at all, so adults and children alike find great significance in this ritual. Very well presented and set out. Thank you.
