This is a really simple activity, but it involves getting out for walk in nature first – something I highly recommend if, like us, you find people going a bit stir-crazy indoors sometimes. There’s nothing like being outdoors to help reset us!
When you’re out, challenge everyone to collect FIVE similar length sticks.
When you get home, you’ll need some string and some fairy lights (I used these ones only £1.49 from The Range.)
- Lay all your sticks side by side vertically (like lampposts!).
- Using string, tie the top of stick 1 to the top of stick 2.
- Tie the bottom of stick 2 to the bottom of stick 3.
- Tie the top of stick 3 to the top of stick 4.
- Tie the bottom of stick 4 to the bottom of stick 5.
- Wiggle your sticks around to make a star shape before tying the top of stick 5 to the bottom of stick 1 (the ends go together).
- Attach your fairy lights and TAH-DAH!
I’ve found this is a fun craft to do together, and it goes down well with everyone including boys and Dads (who sometimes don’t like what us ladies provide 😉 ).
If you want to, you could use the activity to lead a reflection on the star in the Christmas story – here’s some notes you could use.
This activity comes inside the Advent Party Pack – loads of faith-based family activities to help you prepare for Christmas!
