How many PJ Days have you had recently?
In Luke 24:49 Jesus says to his friend:
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
This is a familiar verse about Pentecost, when, as Jesus promised, his disciples were filled with the Holy Sprit.
This verse came up in the Lectio360 material I listen to each morning as I was sitting in my favourite (prayer) chair. My 7 yo had woken early and had snuggled onto my lap and inside my dressing gown. She love snuggling, and often goes to bed with my dressing as she says it smells of me!!
She’s also the daughter who would rather stay in pyjamas all day, and to whom I regularly say things like,
“Just get dressed and then you can go in the garden.”
Sometimes she gets dressed in different pyjamas and we count that as being dressed. Pick your battles, right?
As I was listening to this phrase, ‘wait until you have been clothed with power from on high’, I thought that there is something about waiting for God, waiting for him to ‘clothe me’, to make me ‘smell like him’ so that I am ready to go out in the world to be the person he has made me to be, to have the impact I was born to make, the touch the lives I am placed near to.
As we approach Pentecost (Sunday, 19 May 2024), let’s practice waiting for God to clothe us and pray that his Spirit in us gives us power to be the people we were created to be.
